Social Justice Committee
The Social Justice Committee was formed in November of
2002. The hope of this committee is to bring a greater awareness to social
justice issues in Edmonton and address them in some way.
Social Justice issues to us are those that affect people's
rights to the basics to put food on their table, shelter over their heads and to
educate their children. We believe people have the right to decent work in
a respectful work place. We operate under the direction of you and the
membership to help identify what is important to you and what you think needs to
be addressed. (Have done 2 surveys to get membership input.) With
membership support we can then take leadership to plan activities.
Over coming next couple of years committee will be focusing
on Housing and Homelessness issue, and participating in the following:

Participation in Homeless for the Night June 3, 2005 with
the Youth Emergency Shelter
-
Discussions with Habitat for Humanity for our members
participation in home building.
-
Educational programming for our members on homelessness and
affordable housing. (2005, 2006).
-
Policy approaches to housing and Homelessness prepared for
discussion and endorsement by CSU 52 members. (2006, 2007).
