COE Bargaining Update #4
Posted on 10/21/2024
Three Things to Know
- Proposals: The Union and the City exchanged bargaining proposals on October 10, 2024. Negotiating began October 18, 2024.
- Collaborative Approach: Both parties have committed to a respectful and collaborative bargaining process, with the City signalling lessons learned from the last round of negotiations.
- Non-Monetary Discussions First: The parties started negotiating non-monetary proposals to help the parties gain momentum prior to handling the more difficult monetary proposals. Discussed items included the letters of understandings (LOUs) with agreement on a couple. Non-monetary proposals were shared with the membership during the Unit Meeting on September 25, 2024.
Meeting Recaps
Both parties met on October 10, 2024, to exchange bargaining proposals and set the stage for this round of negotiations. Both parties acknowledged the difficulties experienced in the last round of bargaining and that there were learnings for both sides as we moved into this new negotiation round. We conveyed that despite the number of proposals we brought forward, we are not interested in a long, drawn-out process.
The parties began interest-based discussions on October 18, 2024, following the City expressing they value their relationship with CSU 52 during proposal exchanges. Negotiations began with a focus on non-monetary proposals, aiming to build momentum (i.e. a few yeses to the get the ball rolling) before diving into monetary discussions. Our committee will continuously assess the progress of negotiations as we work our way through the proposals.
What's Next
- Non-Monetary Items: Negotiations continue for the full day on October 24, 2024.
- Strategic Momentum: We will continually evaluate how the process is going and make any necessary changes to proceed in a timely manner.
- Continued Updates: We will keep you informed on all developments and ensure that your voice is heard throughout this process.
Thank you for your continued support. We remain committed to negotiating in your best interest, with the goal of achieving a fair and reasonable memorandum of agreement that we can recommend to members for ratification.
