May 15 - MOA Ratification Vote Results: Ratified

Posted on 5/15/2025

Members have voted to accept the Memorandum of Agreement with the City of Edmonton for the years 2025-2027. We thank everyone for your participation and engagement during this round of bargaining.

The next step is for City Council to have a ratification vote, which is expected to happen on May 21, 2025. Once ratified by City Council, we will work with the Employer to determine when members can expect to receive retro pay. We will update you all once we know more.

Newly covered medications, glucose monitoring and supplies, as well psychological coverage will be available to members upon the date that City Council ratifies. This coverage is not retroactive so you will not be able to make claims for expenses incurred prior to the date of ratification. It will take a couple of weeks for Alberta Blue Cross (ABC) to update their system. It is recommended that you wait at least two weeks after ratification to submit claims to ABC.

May 1 - Bargaining Update #12: Tentative MOA Reached

Updated on 5/6/2025

We’re pleased to inform you that CSU 52 and the City of Edmonton have reached a tentative agreement, which your Negotiations Committee recommends for ratification.

Highlights of the agreement includes several significant gains for our members, including:

  • General wage increases of:
    • 2.75% (2025)
    • 3.0% (2026)
    • 3.0% (2027)
      with full retroactivity.
  • Renewal of the Hybrid Work Letter of Understanding, meaning that hybrid work remains available for the life of the Collective Agreement.
  • Expanded coverage for psychological benefits from $1000 to $2000 with the addition of registered social workers as a covered practitioner.
  • Drug plan improvements by removing the exclusions for fertility, sexual dysfunction, hair loss, and weight loss drugs. This means that these medications will be covered going forward.
  • Coverage for continuous glucose monitoring.
  • Member Experience Liaisons (MELs) will no longer be included in the Program Specialists Letter of Understanding, meaning MELs will have access to the full Collective Agreement and their own wage scale, which is the same as the Recreation Technician I wage scale. Other Program Specialists will have improved access to the Collective Agreement.
  • Safety boot subsidy increase from $60 up to $200.
  • Shift differential increases and language clarification to ensure the entire shift receives shift differential if the major portion falls within the hours noted.
  • A change to Provisional wage step increases, to allow for provisional employees to reach the different wage steps quicker.
  • 10 paid domestic violence leave days enshrined in the Collective Agreement.
  • Language change in Temporary Change of Duties to ensure that members receive at least a 5% wage increase when acting in a higher level Union position.

Please plan to attend one of these Zoom sessions. The City will allow members to attend one of the Information Sessions during work time. Stay tuned for further updates. Thank you for your continued support and solidarity.

We would also like to send a special thank you to the Negotiations Committee: Bryce Jowett, Amanda Pickett, Pierre Blanchette, Maihzy Patel, Marko Skendzic, Devin Sweeney, Charmaine Mayes, Liam Peuramaki (Coalition of Edmonton Civic Unions), and the support of countless others. We'd also like to thank the City of Edmonton negotiations committee for this truly interest-based round of bargaining.
